El-Sayed Salama, a young researcher at the School of Public Health, Lanzhou University, has recently been appointed as an editorial board member of the international journals "Biomass Conversion and Biorefinery" (IF=4.987, SCI, Q2 WOS, Springer Publisher) and "World Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology" ( IF=3.312, SCI, Q3 WOS, Springer Publisher) from 2022.

Since joining Lanzhou University, Dr. El-Sayed Salama has relied on the Green Energy and Environment Laboratory (GEEL) to study: 1) Convert environmental waste and biological waste into renewable energy-biofuels to achieve environmental sanitation; 2 ) Use microorganisms to remove heavy metals, organic pollutants and microplastics in wastewater to improve wastewater treatment; 3) Identify and characterize active substances and nutrients in marine biological resources, and study human health pathways; 4) Apply multi-omics to understand the interactions between microorganisms in environmental systems. The above research content is not only closely related to environmental health, but also directly or indirectly related to human health. In particular, the realization of organic waste resources and effective use of green energy can not only alleviate the shortage of traditional fossil resources, but also reduce air and other environmental pollution. It is a long-term and sustainable environmental protection strategy.

The appointment of Dr. Salama as an editorial board member of international high-level journals will strengthen the communication among scholars, broaden their international horizons, learn advanced concepts, and contribute to the progress of environmental science and engineering.
