Preventive Medicine

The establishment of the Preventive Medicine Major of the School of Public Health at Lanzhou University can be traced back to 1959. It is the earliest preventive medicine major established in Northwest of China. This program makes efforts to develop specialized personnel in the field of public health and preventive medicine. Therefore, the undergraduate major in preventive medicine trains students with good professional qualities in public health and preventive medicine, knowledge of basic medicine and clinical medicine, epidemiological theory and skills and abilities to undertake public health physician duties and health supervision. Graduates have a broad vision and preliminary scientific research capabilities in observing and analyzing health issues from human biology, physical environment and social environment, psychology and behavior, health policy and administration.
The teachers and researchers include eight professors, seventeen associate professors, and several lectures and assistants.
 
Years of Study
We provide a 5-year program for students applying for a bachelor’s degree in Preventive Medicine. There was also a flexible length of schooling in which students are allowed to achieve their study intermittently. But students’ stay in the university should not exceed 9 years.

We provide such key courses as Basic Medical Science, Clinical Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Health Statistics, Epidemiology, Toxicology, Environmental Hygiene, Science of Health Legal System and Supervision, Health Education, Child and Adolescent Health, Occupational Health and Occupational Medicine, Nutrition and Food Hygiene, Science of Health Care Administration, Sanitary Microbiology.
