The institute of nutrition and food hygiene was established since May 2006 with two disciplines, nutrition and food hygiene, and hygiene chemistry. The institute is an affiliated unit of nutrition and health research center of Lanzhou University and Gansu Nutrition Society.

The institute of nutrition and food hygiene has developed into a basic organization integrating teaching, scientific research, postgraduate training, social services and product R & D, through the unremitting efforts of all teachers and students over the years.

The research fields of the institute were based in the conditions of nutrition, food safety and health in western China, which covers the nutrition and health problems in disadvantaged are and ethnic minority population, the development and evaluation of northwest characteristics food resources, the nutrition and chronic disease prevention and control, the special populations and clinical nutrition, food safety and supervision and so on.  

The institute has 13 full-time teachers, including 2 professors, 5 associate professors, 6 lecturers, 10 Master's supervisors, 7 Ph.D., and 1 Ph.D. candidate.

Academic Projects

In recent five years, the institute has undertook, participated in or completed academic projects in a total of 27, including 1 National Ministry of Science and Technology 863 Support Plan, 11 NSF Projects, 2 Provincial Science Funds, 1 Provincial Scientific and Technological Breakthrough Project, 4 Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities, 2 Lanzhou University Teaching Reform Project, 2 Lanzhou City Talent Innovation Project and a number of domestic enterprise cooperation project. Scientific research funds totaled about 6 million yuan.
