Academic report by Dr. Ying Lu, New York University Steinhardt

At the invitation of Lanzhou University, Ying Lu, associate professor (tenure) of Department of Applied Statistics, Social Science, and Humanities at New York University Steinhardt, visited on July 4 and gave a report entitled 'A Statistical Framework for Single Subject Evaluation'. The seminar was presided over by professor Xingrong Liu, dean of School of Public Health. Faculty members and graduate students from School of Public Health and School of Mathematics and Statistics attended the seminar.

 

By taking the rehabilitation of stroke patients as an example, Dr. Lu introduced the application of statistics in health sciences. She narrated the scientific methods concerned by statistics, such as advancing the concise scientific problems, data model establishment, information collection and simulation verification. In particular, she introduced how to combine the methods and specific health problems in statistical studies to guide clinical work. In the question-and-answer session, teachers and students actively asked questions and they were all answered by Dr. Lu in patience.

 

Professor Xingrong Liu appreciated Dr. Lu’s excellent report at the end of seminar and fully recognized that this seminar was of importance for broadening our academic visions and developing scientific ideas.
